Pet Census – What Good Are they?

Pet Census – More and more municipalities are beginning to develop censuses of pets in which they register what animals are in the municipality and who they are owned by.

This should be something of a mandatory nature, and in the same way that a person when buying a car is registered as its owner, you should do something similar with animals.

Why are pet censuses important?

Prevent abandonment. This is fundamental. This is something that could be solved at least partially if all the animals had an identification chip.

In a first stage it could be mandatory for pets that are bought in stores or adopted, protecting animals from illegal trade.

Help to recover lost dogs and cats. Many animals are lost every year and end up in the municipal kennels or in the hands of people who given the impossibility of knowing who the owners of the animal were and decide to keep them.

If the animal had a chip it would be as easy as checking the Pet census, calling the owner and picking it up.

Responsibility. Animal owners would think twice knowing that they are fully responsible for everything their pet does and that they will know who it is. Perhaps the irresponsible will think twice before buying an animal on a impulse, seeing that all your data is recorded.

Is it really that complicated?

Fearfulness In Puppies And What To Do About It

No, it’s a simple matter of bureaucracy, but as with everything, it has its pros and cons.

The registrations today are not cheap, and the protectors fear that some people do not dare to adopt a pet if they have to pay the chip, in addition to the mandatory castration imposed by many associations.

Without a Pet Census it could mean a high outlay of money for the person who want to have an adopted animal, and this could lower the number of adoptions.

At least at first, until people became more aware of the issue as it has already happened with the castrations, which are increasingly understood by the population.
