Cyclone Debbie with Torrential Rain and Howling Winds

Operator of the Kinchant Dam on Mackay have started to release water after the profound rains delivered by the Cyclone Bebbie  which topped it further than its capacity during the night.

Colin Bendall, supervisory and manager of operations as well as services at SunWater, told ABC Rural this is a regular action in reaction to a filled dam, plus they started releasing water close to 11.30 pm Monday night.

About 700 mega-litres per day will be discharged, which has cut off a roadway at a location known as “Anthony’s Crossing”.

Bendall stated that “plenty of notice had been given to residents” however due to the actual unpredictability of any cyclones, they have waited until last night, as not to cut off road access too early.
