Death will not Separate you from your Pet in New York

We are celebrating “All Saints” in New York, the eve of the dead and the day after Halloween, so there is no other option but to talk about death and your Pet.

The love that some people feel for their animals goes beyond what can be considered a pet. For them they are an important part of the family and in some cases, even their only family.

This is common in large cities where thousands of people live but in which they are increasingly alone. 

Many establish strong ties with their pet dogs or cats and are not willing to breakaway from them, even after death.

However in New York, as in many parts of the world, until now it was forbidden for an animal to be buried next to a person. If someone’s desire was to bury themselves together with their pet dog or their pet cat, they only had one option: to buy a place in the pet cemetery and ask to be buried there.

Now, the laws have changed and the green light has been given so humans and pets can share graves.

It’s not something new

This news is not so novel if we consider that already many ancient civilizations did exactly the same. 

In the pyramids, without going any further, many mummies of cats were found buried along with their owners.

Numerous burials have also been found for pets in many parts of the world and in civilizations as different as Roman or baboon.

The legislation in Spain

Currently in Spain you could only bury the animals in places indicated or specified for them, but since there are very few pet cemeteries, it was common to have them incinerated.

It is even possible to request the ashes of the animal in an urn, just as it is done with human ashes of the loved ones. However, it is no longer common, as it used to be, to embalm the body of the .

But everyone who had a country house or land used to bury their animals on their own land, something that was prohibited and that could be subject to fines and penalties.

Currently, this has just been decriminalized in some autonomous communities, allowing animals to be buried in private places, provided they comply with clear rules to avoid health problems or environmental problems.

Death of young puppy aboard United flight triggers United States department inquiry

United Airlines dealt with new reactions on Wednesday regarding a young puppy dog which passed away in-flight soon after an attendant ordered it stored in an overhead box.
