Israel’s West Bank Settlement Plan Might Wreak US-Israel Relations

In response to the growing residential needs in the region, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took the decision to construct 2500 new settlements in West and East Jerusalem.

This move as reported is largest of its kind. This kind of massive expansion last took place only in 2014.

These settlements are going to shelter more than 400,000 Jewish residents.

But this announcement garnered a lot of International criticism. The International body considers it illicit since it is a potential hindrance in the idea of Palestine liberty.

Some Palestinian officials believe this move to be against their peace and security since it takes over the land which they supposed to be the foundation of their future state.

This is second such move of the Israeli Government in this direction. The close ties between present Israel and US Governments are no secret.

Though Benjamin had certain clashes with Obama, he never missed a chance to have a positive liaison with Trump. Neither did US failed to show its affection for the later.

Trump’s secretary in his statement proved it:

“Israel continues to be a huge ally of the United States,” Spicer said. “(Trump) wants to grow closer with Israel to make sure that it gets the full respect that it deserves in the Middle East.”

Any other time such crude decisions on part of Israeli Government would have provoked US condemnation but not on Tuesday when US transition team hesitated in passing any Comment on the situation.

The European Union was audacious enough to say:

“The move “seriously” threatened the prospects for a viable two-state solution.”

The peace between the two states of Israel and Palestine was the major focus for every US government be it Democratic or Republic. But of course, Trump is an exception as he repeatedly proved it.

Trump’s silence proved that he would be supporting Israel in its settlement decision. Also, US has some personal ties attached to it since Trump has elected David Friedman as US Ambassador to Israel who is a resolute supporter of this settlement move.

Out of these 2500 settlements a total of 100 would be build in Beit EI region close to Ramallah vicinity. This very region received a huge donation from Trump’s Charity fund in 2003.

The Palestine Liberation Organisation totally denounced the recent settlement move which made them comment:

“Once again, the Israeli government has proved that it is more committed to land theft and colonialism than to the two-state solution and the requirements for peace and stability,”

This made the Israeli PM to initiate a discussion with them. Also, Trump was an active participant of this telephonic conversation during which he invited Benjamin for a meeting in US in the first half of February.

Just a few days after Trump won the Presidential seat he talked about the Dramatic transfer of the US Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Israel. But now seeing the matters taking a new turn, Trump has given in to the pace and preferred taking a vigilant move in the matter.

Trump’s administration is now giving way to further discussion about the matter with stakeholders.

Had it been an commitment it would have been proceeded but now seeing the situations we do not want to give it any official effect- as revealed by a recent statement by White House secretary Sean.

Death of young puppy aboard United flight triggers United States department inquiry
