Trump says Veto to Countries is not a “Ban on Muslims”

US President Donald Trump said in a statement Sunday that his decree to close the borders of certain “refugees and foreigners is not particularly aimed at Muslims”, as a global wave of condemnation of the measure is taking place.

“To be clear, this is not a prohibition targeting Muslims, as the media reports falsely,” Trump said. “This has nothing to do with religion, it is terrorism and the security of our country.”

He said that the seven countries covered by the measure (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen) were on a list of countries centered out under the Obama administration: people who had been there in the last five Years had no right to come to the United States without a visa.

Trump also said that the “Obama administration had suspended the issuance of visas for Iraqi refugees for six months in 2011”.

President D. Trump also added:

“There are more than 40 countries in the world that have Muslim majorities and are not affected by this decree.”

Trump stated, “The United States has always been a land of the free and home of the brave”.

“We will preserve that freedom and security “added the president.

He recalled that the issue of visas will be resumed at the end of the 90 days of suspension, when new control procedures have been put in place.
