Protect your Email, Social Networks and Bank details

At CTN News, we have consulted two cyber-security experts to give us the keys to securely using social networks, e-mail, online banking, mobile applications and even link pages. Also Whatsapp and the websites of second-hand sale. All with the aim of protecting your privacy and your data from pirates and scammers.

SOCIAL NETWORKS: COMPETE AS IN REAL LIFE

“Apply common sense, show respect for others and be very careful when dealing with unknown people,” says Marina Nogales Fulwood, director of K2 Intelligence, a company specializing in cyber security.

“If you are not the type of person who insults strangers on the street, then you have to behave in the same way as you do in real life, do not do it on social networks! “Warns Nogales Fulwood.

Secure your accounts. “In the case of Twitter or Facebook, double authentication can be activated, so every time we want to log in, we are sent an SMS with a code to complete the process,” says Yago Jesús, developer of tools to protect one self in network.

Do not post personal content that might compromise you

Explicit or offensive content and images that may be embarrassing to some of the portrayed as well as contact information should be avoided.

Before accepting a friend request from a stranger, investigate. See if there are any friends or places in common, any cause that has shown interest in you or if it may be a false profile. These usually do not have photo or take only or two of spectacular good looking boys or girls. If it’s too good to be real, it probably is.

Once accepted, if you perceive something strange, block immediately

Avoid sharing data that can locate you in the real world, for example, when leaving or returning from vacations times.

Periodically review the privacy policies of the social network to control who accesses your content.

Do not believe everything you read in the networks

IGNORE THE UNKNOWN

Refrain from sending personal data such as passwords, bank accounts or photos, even known to known people online.

“By sending a message, we lose control over it.We never know if they will be shown or published by third parties, keep in mind that even if your mesages are safe, it don’t mean that the receiver’s phone or computer are safe from hackers,” says Nogales Fulwood.

Minors should be especially careful about the type of conversations they have with strangers , kids are targets. They may end up in groups where material or criminal information is shared.
