Times Square Muslim Praying Against Trump’s Immigration Policy

Cities across the United States celebrated demonstrations this weekend in support of US Muslims and to protest the immigration policy of President Donald Trump.

More than a thousand people of different religious denominations demonstrated in New York City on Sunday.

The iconic Times Square hosted the “I Am A Muslim Too” event, organized by various groups including the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding. Some attendees waved American flags and others wore signs with the motto “No Muslim Ban”.

The mayor of the city, Democrat Bill de Blasio was saying that “we have to dispel stereotypes” and that the United States is “a country founded to protect all beliefs.”

Trump has started a fight against immigration that does not meet the legal requirements, in addition to imposing a temporary veto on the entry of migrants from seven Muslim majority nations – “Syria, Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan and Libya” – which was Paralyzed by the courts.

Hip hop mogul Russell Simmons led the protest. According to him, the Muslim community is being used as a scapegoat, and that “diversity will prevail”.

In Oregon, hundreds protested Sunday before the state Capitol in favor of migratory rights.

Yesica Navarro shared her experience of growing up as a migrant. She arrived in the United States as a child with her family and managed to triumph against all odds, according to The Statesman Journal.

“We love this country, we want to be accepted. This is our home,” Navarro said.

“The crowd, which according to the organizers hovered over 1,000 people, cheered and applauded while the cars blew their horns”, CTN News correspondent Chris Wick added.

The demonstration was part of a national movement called Immigrants’ March Presidents Day 2017.

In “Dallas, about 1,700 people took part in a peaceful downtown protest on Saturday”, police said.

Religious and civic leaders participated in the act against Trump’s immigration policy, The Dallas Morning News said. Some protesters carried flags of the United States or other nations and chanted “Say it loud, say it clear, refugees are welcome here”. No arrests were made.

In a counter-mobilization, about a dozen people showed their support to Trump near the protest.
