US Bans Entry of Oscar Nominated Syrian

US immigration authorities have decided to ban the entry of a 21-year-old Syrian cinematographer whose raw tape about the civil war in her country, “The White Helmets,” was nominated for an Academy Award.

According to internal correspondence from the Donald Trump government that the Conspiracy talk – CTN News had access to, the Department of Homeland Security decided at the last minute to prevent Khaled Khateeb’s trip to Los Angeles to appear at the Oscars.

Khateeb was scheduled to arrive in Istanbul on board a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul. But his plans were stalled after US authorities reported finding “adverse information” related to him.

Adverse information is a broad category that can include everything from links with terrorists to irregularities in the passport. When asked for a comment, Gillian Christensen, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security, said “a valid travel document is required to travel to the United States.”

“The White Helmets,” a 40-minute documentary on Netflix, has been nominated for “Best Documentary Short Film”. If the film won the Oscar, the award would be for director Orlando von Einsiedel and producer Joanna Natasegara. Khateeb is one of three people who are credited with cinematography; Franklin Dow is the director of photography.

The film focuses on the rescuers who risk their lives to save the Syrians affected by the civil war. Many of the members of the group have been killed by Syrian President Bashar Assad’s air forces. The group was also nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize last year.

Khateeb had been issued a visa to attend the ceremony with the biggest Hollywood stars. But the Turkish authorities arrested him this week, according to internal correspondence from the US government.

No explanation was given in that correspondence about why Turkey stopped him.
