Washington Post launches Motto “Democracy Dies in Darkness”

The Washington Post has a new motto on its website: “Democracy dies in Darkness.” The phrase appears below the name of the newspaper on its website, but not in the same place in the print version of Wednesday.

Amazon.com founder and CEO Jeff Bezos used the phrase in an interview last year when asked why he bought the newspaper.

“It seems to me that many of us believe that democracy dies in darkness and that certain institutions have a very important role in ensuring that there is light.” And I think The Washington Post has a place, an important place, to do that because our headquarters is in the capital of the United States of America, “he said on that occasion.

Spokeswoman Kris Coratti said in an e-mail that the “newspaper started using the slogan last week when it launched its new channel” on Snapchat Discover.

“It’s something we’ve been saying internally for a long time”, referring to our mission. “We thought it would be a statement of good and concise value that conveys what we are to the many millions of readers” who came to us for the first time last year. , Wrote Coratti.
