Father poured boiling water on his daughter because she would not marry

Austin, Texas – Iraqi parents threw boiling oil and brutally assaulted their youngest daughter for refusing an arranged marriage with a man 12 years older than her in San Antonio, Texas , authorities said Monday.

“We became aware of the fact that mid-last year, mid-2017, there had been a marriage arrangement made between the family of this young lady and an adult male living in another city, whereby approximately $20,000 (£14,000) was going to exchange hands,” Sheriff Salazar said.

Maarib Alhishmawi , 16, fled the family home at the end of January and was found on March 23rd at the premises of an organization that helps battered women in Bexar County, where she was recovering from several injuries suffered in her home in the last six months.

The county sheriff, Javier Salazar, explained in a press conference that the parents of the minor, Abdulah Fahmi Al Hishmawi, 34, and Hamdiyah Sabah Al Hishmawi, 33, were arrested and charged with family violence, although this Sunday they were released after paying a $30,000 bail.

More to follow.
