Infidelity in the Animal World

In the previous article we have seen some examples of animal fidelity. Today I’m going to make it a little easier and I’m going to talk about infidelity in the animal world. Surely some of the data we are going to see will surprise more than one person, because one of the most unfaithful animals are monkeys, curiously also the most similar to us.

The gelada monkeys. These live in herds in which there is a dominant male who is the one who has the privilege of mating with all the females of the herd. But we can see that this does not satisfy either the subordinate males or the females themselves, who perhaps know little about their part. These females not only take advantage of the opportunities that arise to be unfaithful, but they do so with premeditation and treachery.

While in a normal sexual relationship these monkeys produce screams that can be heard thirty kilometers away, when it is an illicit relationship they  make sure that the dominant male is at a considerable distance to feel safe.

Insects love one night’s relationships

Insects are the least affectionate animals in nature and also the least romantic ones. The usual thing is that male and female come together for the reproductive act and the story does not pass that … if the male is lucky.

Some spiders or species such as the praying mantis devour the male after intercourse to ensure the dose of food that allows your body to perform the pregnancy. And there are loves that kill.

Rodents are also very promiscuous animals and also reproduce very quickly.

The rabbit is usually the example that is always put in these cases, but mice and rats are not left behind. As a curiosity we can comment that in a study conducted by the National Academy of Sciences in 2013, it was found that the children of the most promiscuous rats produced more pheromones that caused attraction in the opposite sex, that is, they were more attractive and therefore they reproduced more.

Although not all was good news for these little sex-simbols since this increased pheromone production also caused them a significant shortening of their life expectancy. Sucks to be a Rat I guess!.
