Ex-Pharma CEO Martin Shkreli Gets $5 Million Bail Revoked Over A Facebook Post About Hillary Clinton

NEW YORK– Martin Shkreli dubbed as Pharma Bro who was out on bail for impending sentencing over defrauding investors has been jailed over his latest social media antics where he declared bounty of $5000 for Hillary Clinton’s hair strand during her book tour.

Martin Shkreli: A threat to Society

In a motion filed last week, the prosecutors said Shkreli wrote a post on Facebook where he declared to more than 90,000 followers that he would pay $5000 to anybody who grabs a hair strand from Hillary Clinton during her book show.

Apart from stating that this unthoughtful antic required “significant expenditure of resources by the U.S. Secret Service”, the prosecution attorney also told how earlier he had harassed the freelancer journalist Lauren Duca that caused his twitter account to be suspended.

The defense attorney argued that his facebook post was just a political satire or an awkward attempt at humor that nowhere declares his client as a danger to society.

However, U.S. District Judge sided with the prosecution calling his continuous shenanigans as a “Solicitation of Assault.”

It isn’t Protected First Amendment Speech – Judge Matsumoto

“The fact that he continues to remain unaware of the inappropriateness of his actions or words demonstrates to me that he may be creating an ongoing risk to the community” Judge, Kiyo Matsumoto said.

Shkreli’s attempt at apology goes in vain

In his written apology last tuesday, Martin Shkreli apologised to Matsumoto declaring that while he used poor judgement but never intended to cause alarm or promote any kind of violence whatsoever.

Stating that he is not a violent person, he requested the Judge not to change his bail status.

But his plea fell on deaf ears.

As Matsumoto pointed out, “He doesn’t know who his followers are. He doesn’t know if someone is going to take his offer seriously. … He is soliciting an assault on another person for $5,000.”

Since being convicted, the “pharma-bro” has kept an active social profile and also announced the sale of only known copy of a Wu Tang Clan album, “Once Upon a Time in Shaolin,” that he purchased for a whooping US $2 million in 2015.

Meanwhile, Matsumoto ignored the plea of Baffman asking for a few days to show that his client could straighten up or to reduce the punishment like banning him on all social media platforms.

Matsumoto declared Shkreli’s facebook post to be the last straw and rightfully delivered the verdict to land him in high-security prison.

Martin Shkreli, 34 year old was escorted out of the courtroom where he remained expressionless and displayed no emotion.

Goodbye Pharma Bro, ‘til January

Now, he will have to stay in the prison until the sentence hearing of his conviction which has been stretched to January 18.

According to legal experts, Shkreli faces upto 20 years in prison for defrauding investors of two hedge funds he managed. However, it is likely that he’ll serve quite less as no investor actually lost money.

Awaiting his sentencing in an undisclosed location, Martin Shkreli will have spend the Christmas this year behind bars away from his apartment, computer and the loved pet cat Trashy.
