ICE Arrests Hundreds of Immigrants Under Operation Safe City in Sanctuary Cities

Immigrant authorities on thursday said they have made 500 arrests in 42 cities across the country. The 4-day nationwide operation called “Operation Safe City” targeted cities that doesn’t cooperate with the immigrant officials to enforce Federal immigration laws.

107 Arrests in Philadelphia and 101 in Los Angeles

The cities that contributed most to the illegal immigrants that were arrested include 107 arrests from Philadelphia and 101 in Los Angeles. Declared as Sanctuaries- a loose term used to describe communities that refuse to cooperate with federal deportation rules.

The officials and local authorities of these cities shield the undocumented immigrants from deportation. Local police limit the access of federal officials to interview the criminals arrested for crime in local jails and fail to provide proper information.

This act of ICE is just an enforcement of Trump Administration’s immigration laws that the “sanctuary cities” refuse to enforce. President Trump and U.S. Attorney Jeff. Sessions are insisting the local officials to give access to Immigrant agents for detaining and deporting an estimated 12 million people living illegally in the country.

Prime Objective is to Remove Public Threats From the Country

The prime objective of Operation Safe City that lasted four days and concluded with 498 arrests across 42 sanctuary cities is to remove the public threats from the country. Of these 498 individuals taken into custody, 317 had criminal convictions, 68 are immigrant fugitives, 104 are previously deported criminal alines and 18 are either gang members or affiliates.

Lack of cooperation from cities like LA, Philadelphia, New York and Baltimore can cause a grave danger for the local residents of the country who have to live under threat from these illegal and undocumented criminal aliens.

“We will continue to voluntarily cooperate on requests from federal immigration enforcement within the parameters of our local laws.”- Spokesperson for New York’s Office of Immigration Affairs.

In a response, the Acting Director of ICE has stated how they would continue the arrests in areas which hide and shield illegal and criminal immigrants from deportation.

“Sanctuary jurisdictions that do not honor detainers or allow us access to jails and prisons are shielding criminal aliens from immigration enforcement and creating a magnet for illegal immigration.

As a result, ICE is forced to dedicate more resources to conduct at-large arrests in these communities.”- Tom Homan, ICE Acting Director

Further, Matthew Albence, the executive associate director of ICE said how they won’t stop enforcing the laws that they are authorized and required to do. In addition, he stated how they will go into these locations every week if required, to remove the public safety threats.
