A Walkthrough to the Memory Lane
Born in Chicago as Hugh Marston Hefner to parents Grace and Glen, Hugh served in the Army and later worked in Esquire Magazine as a copywriter. While working at a publication house, Hefner was lit up with the idea of “Playboy”.
So, he went on a hunch and collected some money by keeping his house furniture as collateral and borrowed some more from friends and family and started his first magazine “Playboy”. The Playboy issue with Marilyn Monroe on the cover helped launch Playboy as the most recognized brand that promotes se*xual freedom till date.
Hefner was the first person who introduced female se*uality in a new light with intelligent simulation in printable copies. Later on, Playboy Inc. expanded to become a lifestyle where those who could afford a subtle membership fee were welcome.
Dressed as flagship logo of bunnies, and wearing tight-clad corsets, the “female bunnies” serve food and drinks.
Playboy’s Bunny Logo
On talking about why he chose a bunny with a bowtie as the logo of the magazine and then the empire, Hefner said in a 1967 interview that “the rabbit, the bunny, in America has a s*xual meaning; and I chose it because it’s a fresh animal, shy, vivacious, jumping… s*xy.”
The famous L.A. Playboy Mansion was sold in 2016 to the owner of Twinkies and neighbor- Daren Metropoulos. However, there was a stipulation which stated that Hefner was allowed to live there till the end of his living days.
Hefner told an interviewer of The Times in 2009: “Spending eternity next to Marilyn is too sweet to pass up.” He will be laid next to Marilyn Monroe in a Westwood Crypt to fulfill his desire.
Called lovingly as “Hef”, he is survived by his wife and four children.
“My father lived an exceptional and impactful life as a media and cultural pioneer and a leading voice behind some of the most significant social and cultural movements of our time in advocating free speech, civil rights, and s*xual freedom. He defined a lifestyle and ethos that lie at the heart of the Playboy brand, one of the most recognizable and enduring in history”, Cooper Hefner
