Saudi Arabia Lifts off The Ban, Women Allowed To Drive Under Vision 2030

Saudi Arabia King announced a decree on Tuesday lifting off the ban and allowing women empowerment by letting women behind the wheels. This decree comes as a part of the plan to improve the stature of the Islamic kingdom by the year 2030.

According to the ambassador and son of the ruling King, Crown Prince Khaled bin Salman, this decree is not just a social change but a big part of economic reform as well. Saudi Arabia was the only country that didn’t allow women to drive and the ban of this oppressive law was welcomed by everyone from around the world.

Women Driving Ban Lifted Off as Part of Vision 2030

Ambassador Khaled said in a statement an hour later how it was a “historic and big day for the kingdom.” He also added, “I think our leadership understands that our society is ready. I think it’s the right decision at the right time”.

Under the vision 2030 envisioned by Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman, he wishes to reform the country with gender equality, youth empowerment, and women empowerment.

“In order to change women’s participation in the workforce we need them to be able to drive to work”, Ambassador Bin Salman stated.

A Positive Change in the Right Direction

The decree has been welcomed by everyone and the White House has applauded Saudi Arabia for this new step in the right direction.

“This is a positive step toward promoting the rights and opportunities of women in Saudi Arabia. We will continue to support Saudi Arabia in its efforts to strengthen Saudi society and the economy through reforms like this and the implementation of Saudi Vision 2030.” – a statement issued by the White House.

Reduce the Financial Burden of Most Saudi Families

According to the Sunni Islam followed in Saudi Arabia, many restrictions were imposed upon women where they couldn’t mingle with male gender or go in public without permission of a male guardian.

For availing any government facilities, they had to be accompanied by a male person or have written permission from a male guardian.

The latest decree allows the women to take driving lessons without permission from male guardians. In May, Prince had also issued orders to the Govt. to list all the facilities the females could seek without permission of their husbands, fathers or male guardians.

Many families will benefit from this change as most families had to bear the financial burden of hiring male chauffeurs to drive the women around even for daily errands.

There are also ease of other regulations laid out on Saudi Women since Prince Salman has taken the title including the workforce of women in the field of law and education.

“Let me tell you about our leadership’s view on women. Never mind driving a car, which is coming, no doubt… I want her to drive society.”

Death of young puppy aboard United flight triggers United States department inquiry

United Airlines dealt with new reactions on Wednesday regarding a young puppy dog which passed away in-flight soon after an attendant ordered it stored in an overhead box.
