A cross between tweets occurred on Friday night between President Donald Trump and Time magazine, after the president said he refused to be the Man of the Year for that publication.
“Time magazine called me to tell me that the ‘Man of the Year’ was probably going to be me , like last year, but that I had to accept an interview and a photo shoot. I said it probably was not a good idea. In any case, thank you! “Trump tweeted.
A cross between tweets occurred on Friday night between President Donald Trump and Time magazine, after the president said he refused to be the Man of the Year for that publication.
Trump was elected Man of the Year back in 2016 and appeared on the cover of the magazine with the message “Donald Trump, president of the Divided States of America.”
“For 90 years we have chosen the person who had the greatest influence, for better or for worse. Is it then for good or for bad? Donald Trump’s challenge is that the country has a deep disagreement about the answer, “said Nancy Gibbs, Time’s editor.
The president said during a statement to NBC that the distinction was “a very big honor.”
Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!

The President is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year. TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6.
