The murders, extortion’s, robberies and other crimes have turned Venezuela into the most dangerous country in the world in recent years.
This is outlined in the results of the most recent report by Eurasia Group, the world’s largest political risk consultancy, on the 9 most insecure cities in the world, the results are not surprising.
The short list includes four Venezuelan cities: Caracas – in the first place – Maturín, Ciudad Guayana and Valencia.
The ranking was revealed this Thursday by Ian Bremmer, president of Eurasia Group, on his Twitter account, they have taken into account the number of homicides per 100,000 inhabitants.
The list also includes two cities in Mexico, two in Honduras, one in El Salvador and one in Brazil:
▪ 1. Caracas, Venezuela.
▪ 2. Acapulco, Mexico.
▪ 3. San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
▪ 4. Central District, Honduras.
▪ 5. Victoria City, Mexico.
▪ 6. Maturin, Venezuela.
▪ 7. San Salvador, El Salvador.
▪ 8. Ciudad Guayana, Venezuela.
▪ 9. Valencia, Venezuela
A report last March revealed that 67 organized criminal gangs operate in Venezuela: 25 are responsible for drug trafficking and 42 for kidnapping and extortion, according to the Organized Crime Observatory.
Likewise, they have reported that back in 2016 there were 28,479 violent deaths throughout the country, representing a rate of 91.8 per 100,000 inhabitants.
That figure is ten times the world average and ranked Venezuela as the second most violent country on the planet, behind El Salvador, which registered 103 murders per 100,000 inhabitants, according to the OVV.
However, the figures handled by the government are lower.
The then Attorney General, Luisa Ortega Díaz, revealed months ago that the number of homicides recorded in 2016 was 21,752 – adding cases of hired killers and deaths due to resistance to the authorities – bringing the homicide rate for that year to 70.1 per 100,000 inhabitants.
For this year, it is believed that the figures for homicides at the national level will be much higher than last year, due to the repression, economic, political and humanitarian crisis that the country is going through and that worsens month after month.
