The State-sanctioned Russian hackers who were suspected of meddling in the presidential elections held in 2016, have now trasparesses to the U.S electricity grid through the Vermont Utility.
The Russian hackers trespasses the Vermont utility, exposing the fragility in the U.S electrical grid, says a report on Friday.
Investigators found code associated with the hackers during an analysis of Russia’s cyberattacks against Democratic Party organizations.
The reason why Vermont utility was targeted is still not clear. The Green Mountain Power is based in Colchester, Vermont and the Burlington Electric is located 10 miles away from the town of Burlington.
The Spokesman for the utility company stated that the hackers got into a laptop at the Burlington Electricity Department using the same code that the intelligence officials of the U.S have found to the hacks targeting Hillary Clinton and her campaign during the presidential elections.
The Spokesman said
We took immediate action to isolate the laptop and alerted federal officials of this finding,” . “adding the targeted computer was not connected to the grid at the time of the hack. “Our team is working with federal officials to trace this malware and prevent any other attempts to infiltrate utility systems.
The officials at the Vermont company first found the trespassing after running a system-wide scan which was requested by the Department of Homeland Security. This all happened when a report from the President Obama outlined Russia’s role during the election hacks.
As we all know that Russia is at the center of a U.S federal investigation when we talk about the hacking targeted organizations associated with the Democratic Party during the presidential election held in the year of 2016.
Russia has also denied their involvement for the respective. Whereas President Barack Obama announced new sanctions against the Russians followed by the expulsion of 35 diplomats from the U.S.
President- elect Trump, meanwhile criticized over the reports on Friday and praised Putin to be smart enough for deciding the delayed retaliation for the Obama administration decisions and other sanctions.
