Trump thanks Vladimir Putin for his offer to restore relations in Christmas letter

President-elect Donald Trump on Friday thanked Russian leader Vladimir Putin for the “very nice” letter of Christmas greeting in which he expresses his desire to “restore a framework of bilateral cooperation” to ensure “stability and security of the modern world. ”

In a statement released on Friday, Trump thanked Putin for the Christmas greeting and stressed that the “thoughts” expressed in the letter are “correct.”

“I hope both sides will be able to live up to those thoughts and not have to go an alternative way,” said Trump, who spends these holidays at his Mar-a-Lago private club in Palm Beach, north of Miami.

Putin stressed the importance of “restoring” bilateral relations and “serious global and regional challenges” that both nations have had to face in recent years.

“I hope that, once you take over the presidency, we will be able, acting in a pragmatic and constructive way – to take real steps to restore the framework of bilateral cooperation in different areas,” Putin’s letter stresses.

A framework of bilateral relations that, said the Russian president, should be given in the field of cooperation and in an “international scenario at a qualitatively new level.”

The letter conveyed wishes to the US president-elect and his family, “best wishes for health, happiness, well-being and success.”

The publication of this letter comes after the Kremlin criticized the poor relationship it has had with Washington during the presidency of President Barack Obama.

Putin stressed Friday that Trump has been able to capture the sentiment of the people of his country and downplayed the words on the need to strengthen the US nuclear capability, as he said, the Russian nuclear offensive means are now able to overcome the missile shield.

This praise of Putin adds to the good tuning shown between the two leaders, who have praised each other in recent months.

To this seeming atmosphere of cordiality Trump appoints as new secretary of state Rex Tillerson, until now chief executive of the oil company ExxonMobil and with proven links with Moscow.
