Tunisia arrests three suspects in connection with Berlin Bombing

Tunisia arrested the nephew of alleged perpetrator of a “Christmas market attack in Berlin” and two others suspected of belonging to an “extremist network” on Saturday, local authorities said.

Anis Amri, a Tunisian suspected of carrying out the attack that killed 12 people was killed in a shootout with police on Friday in a suburb of Milan.

The Tunisian Interior Ministry detailed that Amri sent money to his 18-year-old nephew to meet in Europe. The nephew was arrested in Oueslatia, the hometown of Amri, and the other two in the capital Tunis.

Meanwhile the Spanish Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido reported that “police are investigating whether Amri was in contact with a possible extremist in Spain”, following a tip which was  provided by German authorities.

Authorities said that “from the data we receive on a reciprocal basis, what we do is to study all possible relations with our country, with a specific person.”

The extremist Islamic state group claimed responsibility for the attack on Monday.

Also on Saturday, the coffin containing the body of an Italian woman who died in the Berlin attack arrived in Rome.

The body of Fabrizia di Lorenzo, 31, arrived at Ciampino airport at noon, five days after dying when an attacker that rammed a cargo truck into a crowded Christmas market in the heart of German capital.

Italian President Sergio Mattarella was also resent for the arrival.

Di Lorenzo lived in Berlin and was in the market buying gifts to celebrate the holidays with his family in his hometown of Sulmona, in central Italy.
