The security was heightened in Italy during the Christmas weekend along with the Vatican on Saturday. Right after, the Italian Police killed the man suspected to be responsible for the Berlin market truck attack, whereas other cities are now kept on high alert.
Police has reportedly increased their presences at all the tourist spots in the major parts of European cities and other populated areas.
Anis Amri, a 24 year old man from Tunisia was held responsible for carrying out the truck attack that killed around 12 people. He was shot dead in a small town near Milan on Friday.
Anis Amri had expected to travel undetected from Germany to Italy via France, taking the advantage of Europe’s Open Borders.
According to the investigator Amri had certain accomplices in Italy and the associates are now being arrested from Tunisia his home country.
Rome officials banned all the trucks and vans from entering the city and heightened the anti terror squad wearing masks and wielding machines around all the nooks and corners of the country.
The Security was also stepped up in Milan Central and other Italian cities, especially the cities with major churches where the people are about to attend the Christmas services during the occasion.
Germany’s de Maiziere told Bild am Sonntag newspaper,
“Convicted criminals from all countries need to be listed in a European database so that we know when and where they are when they cross our borders or ask for asylum,”
The emergency rule came into action since the Islamist militants killed 130 people in Paris in the year of 2015, giving the police with wider search and arrest powers in order to target the suspects, when there’s a threat to the security.
