Nokia made an announcement on Wednesday that it has sues Apple for patent infringement in Germany and the U.S.

As per the Lawsuit, Apple agreed to license a few Nokia patents in the year of 2011, but declined the same afterwards.

Mr. Rahnasto, Nokia’s head of Patent Business , said in a statement,

”Through our sustained investment in research and development, Nokia has created or contributed to many of the fundamental technologies used in today’s mobile devices, including Apple products”. “Since agreeing a license covering some patents from the Nokia Technologies portfolio in 2011, Apple has declined subsequent offers made by Nokia to license other of its patented inventions which are used by many of Apple’s products.”

Whereas, The Apple’s suit, filed in the Federal Court in California claiming, “conspired with Nokia to use unfair and anti-competitive patent assertions to improperly tax the innovations of the cell phone makers.”

Josh Rosenstock, Apple’s spokesman said, in a statement,”

We’ve always been willing to pay a fair price to secure the rights of patents covering technology in our products”. “Unfortunately, Nokia has refused to license their patents on a fair basis and is now using the tactics of a patent troll to attempt to extort money from Apple by applying a royalty rate to Apple’s own inventions they had nothing to do with.”

According to a report, Nokia’s Lawsuit, filed the case in the Court of Dusseldorf, Mannheim and Munich, Germany and the U.S. District Court in the Eastern Districts of Texas, the case covers the infringement in terms of the displays, software, antennas, video coding, display and chipset.

As a response, an Apple spokesperson said in part,

“We respect intellectual property and we’ve always been willing to pay a fair price to secure the rights of patents covering technology in our products. Unfortunately, Nokia has refused to license their patents on a fair basis and is now using the tactics of a patent troll to attempt to extort money from Apple by applying a royalty rate to Apple’s own inventions they had nothing to do with.”
