Trump Administration Ends Affordable Care Act Threatening Patient Protection in US

United States: Trump Administration ends Affordable Care Act as stated by US officials on Thursday, threatening Patient protection in the US. ACA started under Obama’s Administration and known as Obama Care helps millions of American people below the poverty line to afford health insurance and basic coverage.

The payments which started under Obama rule were being continued by Trump Administration despite the strong opposition against ACA rule from the Republican party. Known as CSR or Continued Reduction payments, disbursements were being made to insurers on a monthly basis.

Contributed Reduction Payments Worth $7 Billion Halted by The White House

Based on guidance from the Department of Justice, the Department of Health and Human Services has concluded that there is no appropriation for cost-sharing reduction payments to insurance companies under Obamacare. In light of this analysis, the Government cannot lawfully make the cost-sharing reduction payments.

A statement issued by the White House on Thursday

The decision made by the Trump Administration will most likely lead to more lawsuits. In 2014, Republicans had filed a lawsuit against Obamacare law arguing that CSR payments are unconstitutional and being paid out of the Administration’s pocket. While the Judge ruled in Republicans favor, it was decided that the payments would keep on going amidst the appeal process.

The bailout of insurance companies through these unlawful payments is yet another example of how the previous administration abused taxpayer dollars and skirted the law to prop up a broken system. Congress needs to repeal and replace the disastrous Obamacare law and provide real relief to the American people.

State Regulators and Health insurers are in a great anxiety with the effect of market turmoil due to Trump’s decision. Insurers have stated how this ruling would cause a hike in premiums or lead them to exit the market.

An Act of Sabotage- Democrats on Trump’s ACA Cut-off

It is a spiteful act of vast, pointless sabotage leveled at working families and the middle class in every corner of America. Make no mistake about it, Trump will try to blame the Affordable Care Act, but this will fall on his back and he will pay the price for it.

said Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi issued a joint statement.

The Insurers who have submitted their price plans for 2018 include raised prices in accordance with the emerging changes due to the disposal of Obamacare Act.
