Trump calls George Papadopoulos a “liar” in the Russian case

US President Donald Trump called George Papadopoulos, one of the three accused in the investigation of the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential elections, a “liar” on whom he played down his role during the election campaign.

In a series of tweets, the president reiterated that the indictment of his former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, is based on events that occurred before he directed his campaign.

“Few people knew the young, low-level volunteer named George, who has already proven himself a liar. Investigate the Democrats”, Trump said.

As the lawyer from Manafort said, “there was no collusion,” when he wrote in another message.

Of the first three accused by Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller, Papadopoulos – a former foreign policy adviser during the campaign – is the only one who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his relationship with Russian authorities.

It is the first time that a member of the electoral team of the president is implicated by his links with the Moscow government.

Manafort and his partner Rick Gates pleaded not guilty to hiding millions of dollars obtained through association with then-Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich.

Both were under house arrest after paying bail of ten and five million dollars respectively.

Trump insisted that he expects that “people will start to focus on our massive tax cuts for businesses (employment) and the middle class (in addition to the corruption of the Democrats)!”.
