Research Reveals The Memory And Learning Power Can Be Improved By Brain Stimulation

Dual studies that were done recently, show surprising results about the brain stimulation factor.

The results show that electrical stimulation of a particular area in the brain of a human will result in the enhancement of memory power and learning power as well.

In spite of having the applications to the real world of such type of electrical brain stimulating, this particular research is responsible for opening up some new doors to the future.

This future suggests that the stimulation of the neural systems will play a big role in the stimulation of the human brain and the enhancement of memory.

The Introduction To brain Stimulation Techniques

There has been a lot of researchers and studies going on about the different methods that can be used for stimulating the brain. The amazing methods are applied to help people do everything from playing video games to treating depression.

There is a non-invasive option for the brain stimulation which is most commonly utilized by the scientists.

Known as the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, or the TMS, this method incorporates the use of a particular magnetic pulse to induce certain electrical activities in the area of the brain which is the target.

The method is highly applicable practically. However, there are some regions of the brain where it is not applicable.

There is another method known as the Deep Brain Stimulation, which uses the electrical pulses that are fired to the targeted regions of the brain through the implanted electrodes.

This particular method has been used in several health institutes as the treatment method for Parkinson’s and epilepsy. The process is utilized on the patients that are already equipped with implanted electrodes on their brains.

Recent Studies Reveal Astonishing Results

Recently, two different studies have been made with the patients that have implanted electrodes have revealed some interesting results. These patients have already had electrodes implanted for the treatment of epilepsy.

The study reveals that the electrical currents have the ability to enhance the memory power and learning as well. The studies had their primary focus on the brain’s lateral temporal cortex area.

The First Study Done

The first one of the studies was basically led by some researchers of the Mayo Clinic. 22 subjects were examined.

The examination directed the subjects to read some words from a list while the technique of brain stimulation was applied effectively to the different areas of the brain.

The test further directed the subjects to repeat the names that they had read in order to find out whether the memory had any effect or not.

4 out of 22 subjects had received the stimulation in the brains lateral temporal complex region and those were the ones that were able to recall most of the words when compared to the other.

Despite having a limited scope for studying, the doctors guarantee that this enhancement of memory was due to the stimulation of the lateral temporal complex region.

The Second Study Done

This second study which was done by the University of Pennsylvania had examined some subjects with the help of electrical stimulation itself, but the nature of their study was a bit different.

This study wanted to reveal whether the electrical pulses and their timing had any effect on the memory results.

Prior studies that were done by the team made it clear that the electrical pulses might have a negative effect on the memory if they were delivered at an incorrect time.

With the help of a computer model which can be used for the examination of the activities of the brain, the teams started the study.

The participants were asked to engage in some free-recall tests of memory as the computer examined their brain activity.

The model had the capability of identifying the differences between the effective and ineffective learning. Each of the participants took part separately and the computer identifies the triggers of the brain due to the electric stimulation.

The study results proved the fact that correct timing could be a help in enhancing the memory of the brain up to 15%
Michael Kahana, the lead investor in the project predicted that the personalized models that used this particular technology could help a great deal in ‘restoring memory function’.

There are many organizations and centers that still don’t trust the implication of the brain stimulation technique. However, with proper funding, this project has surely got some scope.

Death of young puppy aboard United flight triggers United States department inquiry

United Airlines dealt with new reactions on Wednesday regarding a young puppy dog which passed away in-flight soon after an attendant ordered it stored in an overhead box. The United States Department of Transportation stated it is taking a look at the events which resulted in the bulldog’s demise. UNITED STATE Legislator John Kennedy, whom previously on Wednesday sent out a letter to the United Airlines Commander in chief Scott Kirby, asking for relevant information regarding the significant amount of pets which have passed away while in the transporter’s care, published on Twitter that he intended to submit a bill on Thursday which will restrict airline companies from placing pets inside overhead receptacles. ” Violators will face significant fines. Pets are family,” he noted. Kennedy, within the correspondence, stated United’s “pattern of animal deaths and injuries is simply inexcusable.” The man mentioned that the numbers occurred while on air-planes  is  24 pets, ...

Behind the Barred Windows: How Afghanistan’s War on Drugs Became a Battle for Souls

Behind the Barred Windows: How Afghanistan’s War on Drugs Became a Battle for Souls : If you walk through Kabul today, it might look cleaner than it did a few years ago. The parks once filled with men sprawled under the sun, the bridges littered with used needles and broken glass — they’re mostly empty now. Kids are playing again in Shahr-e-Naw Park. But behind the locked doors and barred windows of the city’s rehab centers, another battle rages — one far more complicated than it looks from the outside.
