WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump relies on his chief of staff, John Kelly, and has no plans to dismiss him for his handling of the scandal of Rob Porter, a senior official that was accused of mistreating his EX, according to CNN on Thursday.
“There are many knives against him. But the president needs and trusts John Kelly, “said one of the two sources quoted by CNN on condition of anonymity who said he had spoken with Trump about the scandal.
The high-ranking official in question, Rob Porter, was the White House staff secretary until Wednesday, when information from his two former females came to light, accusing him of mistreating them physically and psychologically.
The media also broadcast-ed photographs of the first ex-wife, Colbie Holderness, with a purplish eye purportedly from a punch given by Porter.
The controversy over Porter’s case has focused on the reaction of Kelly, who on Tuesday, after the Daily Mail newspaper published the interviews, defended his subordinate as “a man of true integrity and honor.”
The scrutiny of Kelly increased when the CNN television network revealed that he and other senior White House officials had known the charges against Porter for months, and yet had defended and even promoted him to the West Wing.
CNN interviewed Jennifer Willoughby, the second ex-wife, Thursday, who revealed that Porter contacted her this week to ask her to “minimise the mistreatment” in a public statement.
Willoughby was also “worried” about Hope Hicks, the White House communications director and Porter’s current partner.
“If you have not already had abusive behaviour with Hope, you will have it, particularly now that you are under a lot of stress. That’s when the behavior comes out. And if you have not had it already, you will have it, “she said.
