The rapid improvement in Technology has made a lot of things possible, and one of such significant technology trends which were considered impossible in the past but on a steady rise today, is Assisted Reality and Virtual Reality.
Virtual Reality: Virtual Reality is a false computer-generated simulation of a real-life situation. It makes the user feel that he or she has a firsthand reality experience by stimulating their visions and hearing capacity. Virtual Reality can be achieved by wearing a headset like the Facebook Oculus which is appropriately equipped with Technology and also through the use of coding language known as VRML (Virtual Reality Modelling Language) to create series of images, and specify what types of interactions are possible for them.
Virtual Reality can be used to accomplish the following.
- It can be used to enhance an artificial reality of entertainment, gaming play. Such as video games, 3D movies and Head mounted display.
- It can also be used to improve training for real life environment
- It can be used to create a simulation of reality where people can practice beforehand.
Assisted Reality: Assisted Reality is the direct or indirect view of real-life situations through the use of computer-generated enhancements such as Video, graphics, GPS data, etc. Assisted Reality has been developed into apps and used on mobiles devices to match digital components to the real world in a way that they support each other. AR technology is seriously taking over the mainstream; it can be used to do the following
- To show scores on telecasted sport games
- To display photos and text messages on mobile device
- To work with holograms and motion-activated commands.
Similarities between Assisted Reality and Virtual Reality
Virtual reality and assisted reality works hand in hand; they are most times blended to generate a better experience. Some areas of similarity include
- Technology: They both take advantage of the same type of technology to help the user get an enriched experience.
- Entertainment: Both technologies also help the user to achieve an experience that is commonly sought after in gaming and the entertainment sector.
- Science and Medicine: Both technologies also have the impact on the medical field because they can make things such as remote surgery possible. At present, the technology can be used in treating and healing psychological conditions such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Differences between Augmented and Virtual Reality
Some of the differences between virtual and assisted reality include the following
- Purpose: While assisted reality helps to improve the experience of the user by adding virtual components like graphic or sensations as a layer of interaction with the real world, the Virtual reality is computer generated.
- Delivery Method: Virtual reality gets to its user through the hand-held controller which connects people to virtual reality and helps them control their actions in an environment. On the other hand, the assisted reality is used more in mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops to change how digital images interact with the real world.
Finally, virtual reality and assisted reality are fundamental in gaming and the entertainment sector. They both work hand in hand to help the user achieve an improved experience.
