Japan, Australia and Malaysia rule out changing the TPP to include the US again

Mexico opens the door for the United States to rejoin the Trans-Pacific Economic Cooperation Agreement (TPP) just over a year after Donald Trump took his country out.

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto opened the door to the return of its largest trading partner to the agreement, three key Asia-Pacific – Japan, Australia and Malaysia countries opted for caution and reject any amendments.

The exchange of statements came a day after the US president asked his advisers to return his country to the TPP in the face of growing nervousness over a trade war with China.

“There is an open door for the United States to rethink and take advantage of the window of opportunity,” Enrique Pena Nieto suggested in Lima. Then came the non-Japanese, Australian and Malaysian:

“We welcome the return of the US to the table, but I see no desire for any material renegotiation of TPP-11 after the departure from the US left the commercial agreement in 11 member states, “Australian Trade Minister Steven Ciobo said in remarks collected by Bloomberg.

His Japanese counterpart, Toshimitsu Motegi, also did not accept changes in an instrument that he considers “balanced, like a fragile vase”.
