Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is jokingly known in Hollywood as “the franchise Viagra” because of the monetary value he adds to any project.
For proof, his recent movie Rampage, which was at the top of the box office worldwide at its premiere.
At 45, the actor is going through a great moment due to much more than his strong body, also to his dedication, charisma and hard work. For example, after winning the national football championship with the University of Miami, he made the leap into the world of wrestling.
There he dominated the sport for several years, becoming known as The Rock, considered by admirers and experts as one of the best fighters of all time. Then, he ventured into the seventh art in 2001 with The Mummy Returns, followed by The Scorpion King in 2002. More than 35 films later, he was named in 2016 by the specialized magazine Forbes as the highest paid actor in the world.
Gut check.
Always be the hardest worker in the room. A philosophy I still embrace, & one shared by the athletes in my new @UnderArmour campaign. We’re all from different backgrounds & struggles. It’s either the excuse or the reason…So how are you gonna get here? #WillFindsAWay pic.twitter.com/PW09VzYn7W— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) April 19, 2018
In honor of his most recent film Rampage and the status he has achieved in popular culture, I list what I consider his ten best films.
1 Moana (2016)
This animated film from Disney Pictures was received with open arms by critics and fans around the world. He raised $ 643 million worldwide and received two Oscar nomination
2 Fast & Furious
One of the most important characters in the career of Dwayne Johnson is agent Luke Hobbs in the films of the popular Fast & Furious franchise. He entered the series in 2011 in Fast Five (considered by many the best).
3 The Rundown (2003)
It’s one of his first films, but it’s still one of his best. In this action comedy he gives life to Beck, an expert in recovery and bounty hunting, who heads to Brazil to achieve a final mission.
4 Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)
The sequel to Jumanji (1995) was one of the biggest box office hits of 2017. He made so much money that he recently became the highest-grossing film in the history of the Sony Pictures studio. And, of course, The Rock is in the middle of success for the whole family.
5 Pain & Gain (2013)
Considered by many to be one of director Michael Bay’s most decent films, Pain & Gain is also one of the best in The Rock’s career. In this dark comedy, he plays Paul Doyle, a not very intelligent bodybuilder, who ends up being part of an extortion network and a kidnapping plan that ends badly.
6 Central Intelligence (2016)
This action comedy gives us the first meeting between Johnson and comedian Kevin Hart. The result is a pretty entertaining one. Both play perfectly their physical differences and have excellent chemistry with each other.
7 Gridiron Gang (2006)
In this dramatic sports film, freely based on the real story of the 1990 season of the Kilpatrick Mustangs team, he plays Sean Porter, who decides to make a football team to help keep children out of the street problems.
8 Snitch (2013)
In this crime and action film, he plays John Matthews, a DEA secret agent who seeks justice for his imprisoned son. Snitch presents us one of the most interesting characters he has incarnated in his career.
9 San Andreas (2015)
Take The Rock, add the mother of earthquakes and the result is San Andreas. This disaster and action film introduces us to Johnson as Ray, a helicopter rescue pilot from the Los Angeles Fire Department.
10 The Other Guys (2010)
In this action comedy, he plays detective Christopher Danson, a companion of detective PK Highsmith, played by Samuel Jackson. Although it is not a very large role, it is next to Jackson, giving us “the best police in New York”, both over confident, who often cause millions of dollars in property damage.
Starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlbeg, ends up being a decent police comedy, with a tremendous cast that includes Eva Mendes and Michael Keaton.
