SYRIAN PRESIDENT SAYS ATTACK THREAT IS BASED ON TOTAL “LIES”

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said today that the Western threats of attacks on Syria are based on “lies” and aim to devalue the recent gains of his forces around Damascus.

The United States and allies threaten to attack Syria in response to the alleged April 7 chemical weapons attack on Douma in the last major eastern Ghouta rebel bastion, now controlled by Syrian and Russian forces.

Syrian opposition and several countries accuse Bashar al-Assad’s regime of the attack, but Damascus and Moscow deny it.

For Assad, Westerners are reacting in this way because they “lost the bet” they made in opposition to the regime.

The Syrian president, who spoke during a meeting with an adviser to the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ali Akbar Velayati, warned on the other hand that any Western military action would “further destabilize the region.”
