Melania Trump is a trademark in her native Slovenia


There will be no more honey, biscuits, shoes and underwear with the name Melania Trump for the Slovenes.

The future US first lady has hired a law firm in her native Slovenia to protect her name and image from misuse in several products that have gone on sale since her husband Donald Trump was elected president.

Natasa Pirc Musar, director of law firm Pirc Musar & Partnerji, said on Friday that the use of the name "Melania Trump" for commercial purposes without her client's approval will be against the law in the small European country and will represent a violation of personal rights.

"The judicial practice in Slovenia is clear: it is not allowed to use a name, nickname and photo of someone for commercial purposes without consent," Pirc Musar told The Associated Press, adding that the law firm has sent a press release to All Slovenian media, warning them of possible violations of the trademark Melania Trump.

Some of the products that had their name were bottles of honey that had labels with their smiling face and the legend, "from the garden of Melania Trump's house", biscuits decorated with gold dust, high heels shoes, a line of underwear , A type of salad and even a Christmas tree in the capital.

Pirc Musar said that Melania Trump has so far initiated no legal proceedings.

"We only issued a general warning," he said. "We do not decide to call anyone or demand anything.We have nothing against the Christmas tree in Ljubljana called Melania Trump because this has nothing to do with commercial purposes.But we can not allow some products to carry the name 'Melania Trump' .

Born in Melanija Knavs, Melania Trump left Slovenia in the second decade of her life to make her way as an international model. It is believed that the last time he visited his home country was in July 2002, when he introduced Donald Trump to his parents at the Grand Hotel Toplice, by the lake, in the tourist town of Bled, two years before Couple was engaged.

It is unclear whether products bearing only the name "Melania" would also be in violation of trademark laws.

According to the National Statistical Agency, in Slovenia there are 25 people named Melania and 198 who have the Slovenian version of this name, Melanija.
