American Airlines Don’t Take Cash

MIAMI, FLORIDA (Conspiracy Talk News) – If you are travelling with American Airlines from Miami International Airport, leave the cash in your home.

The airline no longer accepts cash payments in the MIA, which means that any transaction that includes additional fees, such as registering the bags or overweight luggage, must be made with credit or debit cards. The change takes effect on Thursday.

The airline has already made the transition to credit / debit payments at more than 50 locations, said American Airlines spokeswoman Alexis Aran Coello, including New York’s John K. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport, Los Angeles International Airport and the Dallas / Fort Worth International Airport.

Aran Coello said the measure will help speed up the registration process because cash transactions take longer than debit / credit transactions.

“By not accepting cash, American can help customers more efficiently. It also reduces the complexity of the work for our agents, who will no longer have to worry about handling cash, find the exact change or close a cash box at the end of the day, “Aran Coello said in a statement. 

“In general, our agents at the counters support the transition to a cashless environment.”

But, what if you only have cash?

American is partnering with Ready Credit, a private company that will convert cash into debit cards at 11 kiosks.

American’s ReadyStations, which are already installed at the airport, function as reverse ATMs. The machines operate in English and Spanish, and convert cash into prepaid Visa debit cards with a value of up to $ 1,000. Agents will be on site to assist passengers who need assistance.

A $5 fee will be added to each transaction regardless of how much the card is. 

The tariff is Ready Credit, not American. The additional fee may disproportionately affect foreign travellers who choose to bring cash to the United States for foreign transaction fees imposed on credit cards in their countries of origin.

Even so, Visa adds only a 1.5 percent foreign transaction fee to Ready Credit debit cards when used outside of the United States, which is slightly lower than the average rate of just under 2 percent that typically prevails. with credit cards, according to WalletHub.

Aran Coello said that foreign passengers have taken advantage of the marginally lower rate on debit cards.

“We are aware of the impact this can have on travellers with international destinations,” he said. “However, we have noticed that many travellers returning to a country where [the US dollar] is not the accepted currency, will often add more funds to their cards, since it is a cost-effective method of conversion [from the US dollar] to other currencies. “

American is not the first airline to refuse money without cash at the Miami airport. United Airlines has two ReadyStation kiosks at the airport since it became cashless in the past three years. 

At the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, there are 11 stations for United Airlines, JetBlue Airways and Spirit Airlines.
