Senate Reaches Agreement To End Federal Government Closure

WASHINGTON (Conspiracy Talk News) – The Senate voted in favor of advancing a budget proposal that allows the federal government to reopen in the next few hours.

After the lack of agreement between Democrats and Republicans caused the extinction of funds at midnight on Friday.

The Democrats agreed to approve a final vote on a provisional spending measure that will last until February 8th, Republican majority leader in the Senate Mitch McConnell, promised to allow an immigration bill to be submitted for a vote next month.

With 81 votes in favor by 18 against, the measure needed a minimum of 60 votes to progress in the Upper House, it should now be submitted to a final vote before moving to the House of Representatives, where it is expected to be easily approved.

“After several discussions, offers and counteroffers, the Republican leader and I reached an agreement. We will vote today to reopen the government to continue negotiating a comprehensive agreement, “Senate Democratic leader Charles Schumer said before the vote.

Schumer said McConnell has vowed that if negotiators fail to reach an immigration agreement before the provisional spending measure expires on February 8th, “the Senate will proceed immediately to the consideration of the legislation” to protect the undocumented youths known as “dreamers”.

“Now there is a real way to obtain a law through the Senate. It is a good solution and I will vote for it, “Schumer added.

Last Friday, the Democrats prevented the approval of funds to finance the Administration by linking their support to the president, Donald Trump, and the Republicans agreeing to regularise the nearly 800,000 “dreamers” living in the country.

The program with which former President Barack Obama protected these young people from deportation (DACA) expires this March 5th, after being cancelled last September by Trump.

The Republicans, for their part, demand that the Democrats include in the new budget agreement funds for the construction of the border wall in Mexico, one of Trump’s controversial electoral promises.

Democrats also demand that budgets address issues critical to them, such as the opioid crisis that plagues the country

The project includes a six-year funding extension for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), a key priority for members of both parties.
