Liberty City (Conspiracy Talk News) – To honour the legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, his birthday, hundreds of people celebrated their lives and contributions to the civil rights movement at the 41st MLK Annual Parade in Liberty City.
King, a Baptist minister and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, who fought for civil rights and social justice, was assassinated on April 4th, 1968, in Memphis. When he died, he was 39 years old.
In the parade, high school bands, athletes and cheerleaders, as well as carnival floats and dancers, filled the streets of Liberty City along 54 Northwest Street, from 10th Avenue to 32nd Avenue.
Some of the participants carried banners with King’s message about the inequality between blacks and whites, where all the work that still needs to be done was said.
One of the banners said: “The same fight. The same problems. 500 years of resistance”!
The parade – one of several events held during the holiday weekend – concluded with a celebration at the Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Miami.
Last year, eight people were injured in the park after a shoot-out between rival gangs.
